Maldives, Sri Lanka agree to boost bilateral ties

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa and visiting Maldives President Abdullah Yameen have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields including trade, banking and finance, fisheries, agriculture, education, defence and maritime.

The two leaders, after identifying the areas of cooperation at the bilateral talks, advised the Joint - Economic Commission to take follow-up action on all areas of cooperation.

Sri Lanka's External Affairs Minister G. L. Peiris, Senior Minister A. H. M. Fowzie, Economic Affairs Minister Basil Rajapaksa and several other Cabinet ministers and secretaries to the ministries were in the Sri Lankan team for the bilateral discussions.
