Sri Lanka ends 2013 with US$7.2bn in foreign reserves
Sri Lanka's foreign reserves rose 4.6 percent to 7,200 million in December 2013 from a year earlier, despite payments to the International Monetary Fund and losses on gold holdings.
In 2013 Sri Lanka recorded an estimated 991 million US dollar 'balance of payments surplus', according to Central Bank estimates, which is a broad measure of the difference between external payments and receipts of a country within a period.
In January 2014 Sri Lanka sold a billion US dollar bond and proceeds of the bond are not included in reserves.
