The Consumer Affairs Authority has confiscated 55 thousand kilograms of substandard fruits valued at 25 million rupees from a storehouse in Orutota, Gampaha this morning.
The load of substandard fruits was seized by the authority when they have been discarded from supermarkets and repacked to be sold to street vendors near Pettah Bodhi tree.
Gampaha District OIC of the Authority Ranjith Weerawardena said that they have arrested 3 suspects at the site.
The seized load of fruits included substandard apples, grapes and oranges.
The arrested suspects are to be produced before Gampaha Magistrate courts today.
