Vehicle use in Mathale district increased by 200% during the past 8 years.
The use of vehicles in the Matale district during the period from 2005 to 2013 has increased by 200%.
The use of motor cars has gone up by 257% while the use of Lorries has increased by 242%.
The use of three wheelers has been increased by 258% while the use of motor bicycles has gone up by 164%.
These statistics were disclosed during a district committee meeting held with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Matale Urban Council.
In addition, big onion produce in the Matale district has gone up from 21 thousand 161 to 37 thousand 382 metric tons during the last eight years.
The fruit produce development is 37.8% and pepper produce has been increased by 300% during the same period.
At the same time, 87% of the population of the Matale district lives in rural areas. 8% lives in urban areas while 5% of the district population lives in the neighborhood of tea estates.
