Sri Lanka tourist arrivals rise 13.8 percent in August 2014
Sri Lanka welcomed the one millionth tourist to the island by August this year and the tourist arrivals rose by 13.8 percent in the month compared to the same period in 2013.
The month recorded 140 thousand 319 tourists arriving in the country compared to the 123 thousand 269 arrived in August 2013.
In the first eight months of this year tourist arrivals surpassed one million and recording a 23.1 percent increase from the 813 thousand 858 came during the corresponding period in 2013.
Most of the tourist arrivals were from Western Europe with 326,920 tourists visiting in the first eight months of this year recording a 14.9 percent increase over corresponding 2013 figures. For the month of August, 48,253 tourists arrived in the island, 11.0% more than August 2013.
