We will make Lanka an upper middle income country, says Minister Douglas.
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Minister Douglas Devananda has said that the government’s economic plans were focused on building a strong rural economy with special focus on micro, small medium industry development, handicraft development and traditional industry development.
He said that they will contribute to achieve the Government’s vision of making Sri Lanka an upper middle income country.
The Minister that the per capita income prior to 2005, was 1’200 US dollars, and we are almost reaching 4’000 US dollars by 2015.
He added that the Government plans to surpass 7’500 US dollars per capita income and reach high middle income status by 2020.
