Central Bank Governor, Ajith Nivard Cabraal says that the country’s economy is stable and moving towards reducing poverty in the Island.

Cabraal said that today economic stability has being established, and poverty has reduced to six percent today from 15 percent six years ago.

He added that we had only 4 percent economic growth at that time, and accordingly, it will take 40 years to make a person rich with that growth rate.

Sri Lanka’s national poverty headcount ratio has declined from 8.9 percent in 2009-2010 to 6.7 percent in 2012-2013.
