Leonardo DiCaprio has done it. He’s finally won the Oscar!

After five Oscar nominations, Leonardo DiCaprio finally walked off the stage Sunday night with the coveted gold trophy.

The actor, who was a favorite to win, took home the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in "The Revenant" at the 88th annual Academy Awards.

“None of this would be possible without you,” he said to his mother while thanking her and others.

After his thanks, he turned his thank you speech to the topic of climate change.

“Making The Revenant was about man’s relationship to the natural world,” he said. “Climate change is real, it is happening now... we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”

He urged viewers to not take the world for granted.

“I do not take tonight for granted.”

Though all the awards given at tonight’s 88th annual Academy Awards amount to an amazing accomplishment for the winners, there’s one award in particular that the collective minds of the internet were especially interested in: Actor in a Leading Role.

Among the nominees this year are:

  • Bryan Cranston, Trumbo
  • Matt Damon, The Martian
  • Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant
  • Michael Fassbender, Steve Jobs
  • Eddie Redmayne, The Danish Girl

DiCaprio has drawn particular attention because he’s “always a bridesmaid, never the bride.” This is his sixth nomination for an award. The first time he was nominated was in 1994 for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
