On the streets of Mumbai, Nigam took the garb of an old man in tatters to dole out some of his songs as part of a social experiment conducted by ‘Being Indian’, a popular Youtube channel.
Titled ‘The Roadside Ustaad’ the video shows Nigam singing the famous song from the SRK-starrer ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ and other songs which caught the attention of many passersby.
‘Being Indian’ tells us in the video that the reason behind this experiment was to find out ‘how Indians react to beauty when it is just around the corner.’
After removing his costume, Nigam says, “It was a humbling experience. One man gave me Rs.12 after listening to my song. I have the note and the coins framed now. I would like to meet him again and give back something.”
This is not the first time a celebrity has hidden his identity. Remember the Joshua Bell experiment? The famous violinist played at a metro station in Washington DC and only one woman identified him and very few stopped to listen to his music.
