Update: Salman Khan jailed for 5 years



A Jodhpur court has sentenced actor Salman Khan to five years in jail after finding him guilty of killing the endangered blackbuck during an impromptu hunting trip in October 1998 in Rajasthan.

The incident took place in 1998 while the actor was shooting Hum Saath Saath Hain. His co-stars Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendra, who had accompanied the actor that night, were acquitted by the court.

Khan was also fined INR 10,000 by the court.

Salman was the main accused in the killing of two blackbucks in 1998.

Actors Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam arrived in the Jodhpur court a little before 11 am when the verdict was pronounced.

Salman Khan's sisters Alvira and Arpita were also in court.


Salman Khan to be jailed

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been convicted in the blackbuck poaching case of 1998.
The Jodhpur court delivered the verdict.
Apart from Salman, Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam were other accused in the case.
However, they have been acquitted.
Final arguments were concluded on March 28.
The verdict was delivered by Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri.
Salman and other actors were present in the court at the time of the pronouncement of the verdict.
Salman was facing charges under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, which prescribes six-year jail for the guilty.
Now, Khan would face a jail term to a maximum of 6 years.
