Silent movie The Artist has won best picture, best director for Michel Hazanavicius and best actor for Jean Dujardin at the Oscars.

French composer Ludovic Bource also won the award for original score for his work on the black and white film.

The Help's Octavia Spencer won the best supporting actress Oscar and gave an emotional acceptance speech.

The Artist also won a total of five awards.

Iran's A Separation became the first Iranian film to win an Oscar when Sandra Bullock presented director Asghar Farhadi with best foreign language film.
