Edvard Munch's masterpiece The Scream has sold at auction for $120m, making it one of the most valuable works of art ever sold.
The 1895 pastel was sold at Sotheby's in New York City.
Bidding began at some $50 million, and lasted for about 15 minutes.
The work is one of four in a series by the Norwegian expressionist artist and was the only one still owned privately.
Proceeds of the sale are to go towards the foundation of a new museum, hotel and art centre in Norway.
It is reported that seven bidders were competing for the work, which was finally sold to an unnamed buyer via telephone.
