The Jaffna Magistrate Court has issued an order preventing any protests in the town of Jaffna.

The order has been issued against Northern Provincial Councilor Anandi Sashidharan and 2 other organizations.

The other two organizations include People’s Power Organization under the chairmanship of former councilor of TNA Kumara Weluge and Jaffna Women’s Organization.

According to the Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara, a peaceful situation prevails in Jaffna at the moment while measures are taken to arrest anyone breaching the court order.

Chief Justice K. Sripavan and IGP N.K. Illangakone engaged in an inspection tour of Jaffna to observe the situation after a school girl in Kayts - Jaffna was gang raped and murdered.

The Chief Justice also inspected the Jaffna Court Complex which was damaged during the attack, and later held talks with several lawyers in Jaffna.

The lawyers of the Northern Province refrained from all court procedures yesterday in protest of the attack on the court complex.

The 9 suspects who were arrested in connection with the rape and murder incident are currently in remand.

Meanwhile, it was reported yesterday that 5 senior police officers have been transferred with immediate effect by the IGP.

The transferred police officers include the SSP in charge of Jaffna police division, SP, ASP, Jaffna HQ Inspector as well as Kayts HQ Inspector.

Meanwhile, a demonstration was held in Seeduwa town this morning, against the rape and murder of the school girl in Kayts.
