A fire at the Saudi Aramco an oil workers' residential compound in Alkhobar early yesterday killed at least 11 people and injured more than 200.

According to the Civil Defense Department, some of the injured were in “critical condition” and confined at nearby hospitals. Casualties were from “various nationalities.”

Preliminary investigation showed that the fire started in the basement of one of the buildings at the Radium compound in the eastern city.

The cause of the fire is still being looked into.

The company says it employs more than 61,000 workers worldwide from 77 countries.
