Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for a explanatory report from the Eastern Province Chief Minister’s faction, with regard to the incident that had taken place between  Chief Minister Ahamed Naseer and a Navy Officer at Saampuur in Trincomalee.

The commander of the Navy submitted a report to the Defence Secretary, who then brought the incident to the attention of the Prime Minister and the President.

While the President is currently in Japan, the Prime Minister has said that the reports from both parties concerned would be considered after the President’s return.

The Prime Minister has instructed that no unilateral communiqué should be released till the President takes a decision with regard to the matter.
