Heavy showers were reported from several parts of the island from this dawn.

The MET Department stated that Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Wayamba and Central Provinces experienced showers.

Traffic movement around Armour Street, Thummulla and Ingurukade Junction in Colombo was hindered as the areas were flooded following heavy rains.

The highest rainfall as at 8.30 AM today was reported from Kalutara with a reading of 180.8 Milimeters.

The Disaster Management Center stated that the water levels in Kelani, Kalu, Nilwala and Ging Rivers and Attanagalu oya have risen again due to torrential rains.

The Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center, Pradeep Kopdippili requested all residents in low lying areas in close proximity to these rivers to be vigilant of the rising water levels.

Water levels in several reservoirs in the Western Slope of the Central Highlands have also risen due to the prevailing torrential rains.

The sluice gates of Laxapana reservoir have already been opened.

Our correspondents stated that the Castlereigh reservoir has reached the spill over level while the water level in Mawussakale reservoir is also rising.   

Meanwhile, the landslide warning issued on 5 Districts namely Kandy, Ratnapura, Nuwara-eliya, Kegalle and Kalutara has also been extended.

Deputy Directress at the MET Department Anusha Warnasuriya said that showers will continue in many provinces.
