Turkey has declared a day of national mourning after three suspected Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants attacked Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport late on June 28, killing 42 people while wounding 239 others and sending shockwaves across the country.

The office of Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım released an official written statement, notifying that a day of national morning had been declared to commemorate the victims of the suspected ISIL attack on one of Europe’s busiest airports.

Following the announcement flags flew at half-mast both across the country and at Turkey’s official representations abroad.
