Land and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga says legal action will be taken against the perpetrators involved in shooting at the Director of the Batticaloa Land Reform Commission.

Minister Amaratunga made this statement in Kandy while answering journalists who questioned the minister about the incident.

Meanwhile, residents in Kalavanchikudi staged a protest against the shooting.

MPs of the Eastern Province and Provincial Council members were also present at the protest.

The Director of the Batticaloa Land Reform Commission Wimalaraj Nation was in the news during the past few days for the strict action he took against land encroachment in the district.

Meanwhile, HIRU TV telecast a program on this illegal acquiring of lands in Batticaloa.

Expressing his views to HIRU CIA program, The Director of the Batticaloa Land Reform Commission Wimalaraj Nation said that a certain group has been harassing him for taking legal action against the illegal acquisition of lands.

Following the HIRU CIA exposure, a group of illegal encroachers were arrested and produced before Courts.

Meanwhile, Additional Magistrate of Eravur M.L.M. Risvy fixed the Case to be heard again on 3rd of March.

The shooting was carried out following this Court order.

Meanwhile, Wimalaraj Nation told our news team that security should be provided for public officials who perform their duties without fear or favouring.
