Hambantota port agreement goes before cabinet tomorrow

The Ministry of International Trade Affairs stated that the revised agreement to lease out Hambantota Port to a Chinese company, will be presented to the Cabinet tomorrow.

President appointed a Cabinet Sub Committee to further study the agreement with the Chinese company and, the Committee has finalized the agreement after consulting three other factions.

Apart from obtaining views from the officials of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, ministry secretaries and subject minister, the Chinese company has also presented their views to carry out new amendments.

The Chinese company will initially invest 1.1 million US dollars in the Hambantota port development and it expects to set up 150 factories under the same agreement.

Meanwhile, Samajawadi Janatha Peramuna stated that it will take action to defeat the government’s efforts if it attempts to privatize public property including Hambantota port.
