President assures no threat to national security from agreement with China

The visiting Chinese Defence Minister and State advisor General Chang Wanquan met President Maithripala Sirisena today.

President’s Media Unit stated that the meeting between the President and the Chinese Defence Minister was held at the President’s official residence.

President Sirisena has recalled the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries during the meeting with the Chinese Defence Minister and has hailed the support extended by China towards the national security of Sri Lanka.

The President stated during the meeting that his country enters to several agreements due to friendly relations between the two countries and such agreements will be worked out without causing any harm to the sovereignty, dignity and national security of the country.

In response, the Chinese Defence Minister has told that Sri Lanka has laid a strong foundation for economic, social and people’s welfare development.
