A racketeer who cheated job seekers out of nearly 20 million rupees promising employment in the Seychelles has been arrested by the Foreign Employment Bureau.
The job agency was located in Kadawatha and had published newspaper adverts to lure prospective job seekers.
It has been reported that unsuspecting clients had made advance payments of nearly one hundred thousand rupees with the hope of gaining employment.
The racket had been active between November 2016 through until February this year.
The agency had since been shut down.
The Foreign Employment Bureau arrested the manager of the agency who had been in hiding in Walasmulla.
Bureau officials seized nearly 200 passports which were in the suspects possession before the job agency had been blacklisted.
