The main suspect, wanted in connection with the recent murder of a sub inspector of police at a hotel in Maspotha, Kurunegala D.K. Chaminda alias Matara Roshan was killed in a police shooting today.

Two policemen received injuries when they exchanged gun fire with the suspect.

Police Media Spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody said the suspect opened fire at police in a bid to escape when a special police team attempted to arrest the suspect at Mayurapura in Hambantota.

Meanwhile, the Galle Magistrate decided today that police have powers to institute legal action under the Excise Ordinance.

Galle Magistrate Nishantha Peries issued this verdict after hearing a Case against police for raiding and taking legal action against an illicit brewer.
