Many areas in Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts continue to be affected by floods due to adverse weather conditions.

Our correspondents stated that several areas have been flooded to a depth of about 12 feet.

Ratnapura district has been affected most by the inclement weather.

Our correspondents stated that Karangoda, Haldola, Radella, Elapatha, Nivithigala and Kalawana areas continue to be severely affected by floods.

Power, Water and Transportation activities in Galle, Matara, Kalutara, Kegalle and Ratnapura districts are disrupted in view of the inclement weather.

The Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply stated that the water supply to about 60,000 consumers out of a total of 70,000 in Matara district, is not operational.

The Ministry in a communiqué noted that water is being supplied to about 7000 – 8000 consumers using Madu River.

However, speaking at a press briefing in Colombo today, Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratna announced a hotline to be contacted if relief camps do not have sufficient water for the displaced individuals sheltered at the camps.
