The GMOA has stated that  it will launch an island-wide strike beginning at 8 a.m. today voicing their objections regarding the police attack on university students, during the protest staged at the Health Ministry yesterday.

The university students were protesting against the Malabe Private Medical College.

Police fired water cannons at protesters from the Inter University Students Federation to disperse demonstrations taking place in front of ministry of Health yesterday.

IUSF staged the protest demanding the termination of Malabe Private Medical School.

A group of students entered the ministry of Health to meet the subject minister earlier in the day.

However, a tense situation erupted when security guards attempted to prevent another group of protestors from entering the ministry premises.
