Prime minister meets with party leaders; Local government elections to be held this year; Joint opposition objects to the meeting

Prime minister Ranil Wickramasinghe met with party leaders in order to discuss the local government elections at temple trees today.

Several representatives of political parties including   SLFP, UNP, JVP, Tamil National Alliance and the Sri lanka Muslim congress attended the discussion.

However the joint opposition refrained from attending.

Concerns have been drawn towards holding the local government elections, which was postponed, before the end of this year.

Further, the party leaders had agreed on holding the elections in accordance with the new electoral system.

Leader of the Democratic peoples front Minister Mano Ganeshan expressed these views following the discussion.
