Two investigative teams in civvies have been deployed to arrest the main suspect of the shooting incident that targeted the car in which Jaffna High Court Judge M. Ilancheliyan was travelling in. Judge Ilancheliyan is one of the judges assigned to the hearing of the Vidya murder Case.
A senior police officer told our news team statements from 30 persons have already been obtained in addition to the two suspects already in police custody.
He also said that the whereabouts of the main suspect’s has also been revealed to police.
The rear police escort motor cyclist that was trailing High Court Judge’s vehicle was shot at on Saturday afternoon.
The two police officers on motor bikes were injuried in the cross fire.
One of them, Sergeant Sarath Premachandra succumbed to his injuries.
Police have been questioning the two suspects who were arrested following the shooting.
The authorities have recovered the pistol and the motor bicycle used in the incident
The arrested suspects are believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the shooting.
One of them is the brother of the main suspect who is currently on the run from police.
Meanwhile, all practicing attorneys in the Northern Province have boycotted attending to court matters demanding the immediate arrest of the suspects and implementing the law against them.
Our correspondent stated that court functions in the province have been crippled due to the boycott .
In addition, all private buses have also boycotted services today in protest of the shooting incident.
