The Ceylon Electricity Board Joint Trade Union Alliance says that it has decided to carry out the strike continuously.

The CEB employees launched the strike at 12 noon yesterday (13) citing several demands including rectification of salary anomalies and preparing salary scales on 1 to 6 proportion.

However, the CEB General Manager issued a special circular yesterday, cancelling the leaves of all CEB employees till 20th this month to ensure that essential services are maintained uninterruptedly.

Some employees except engineers serving in the Colombo main office and power plants had refrained from work from noon yesterday.

Due to inclement weather that prevailed in several areas of the island including Galle and Matara, power failures were reported.

The Media Spokesperson of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Sulakshana Jayawardena, said that power systems that experienced failures would soon be restored.
