Sri Lanka Customs say a young couple was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport, while trying to smuggle Rs. 88mn worth foreign currencies out of the country.

The arrest was made last evening and the suspects are residents of Dematagoda.

They were to leave for Dubai.

Meanwhile, Customs officials apprehended another resident of Dematagoda with 50kg of 'Wallapatta' pieces hidden in his luggage.

It was worth around Rs. 3mn. The goods were forfeited and the officials had imposed a fine of Rs. 300,000 on the suspect before releasing him.
