The authorities have drawn their attention towards taking action legal against adults who allow children below the age of 18 years to drive vehicles.

The Chairman of the National Council on Road Safety, Dr. Sisira Kodagoda said that this decision was taken considering the increasing number of accidents involving underage drivers.

Meanwhile, a schoolboy of Kiralogama Subodhi Vidayalaya in Thalawa died yesterday (23) in a motorcycle accident.

Police said the motorcycle, which was ridden by him had veered off the road due to excessive speed before crashing.

He was a grade 10 student.

Police said up to 21st of September, this year there were 2118 serious road accidents.

And there were 2,837 road accidents in 2016.
