COPE+investigates+Central+Expressway+tender

The Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has decided to prepare a special report on the construction of the Central Expressway.

The Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe told our news team that this special investigation will probe the alleged misappropriation being committed in offering tenders to build the expressway.

The auditing process has already begun and, soon after the first phase is complete, the report will be submitted to the Parliament, he added.

In addition, a special report prepared by the COPE relating to the construction of the expressway between Matara and Hambantota has already been submitted to the Parliament.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe recently also made a special statement in Parliament on the procedures adopted in awarding contracts in the Central Expressway.

On 21st of September, Minister Higher Education and Highways, Lakshman Kiriella stated that no corruption has been committed in offering tenders to build the Central Expressway.
