Central Province Governor Niluka Ekanayake says Central Province Education Secretary should be held responsible for allowing 250 schoolchildren to be used for a Guinness world record attempt in Kandy recently.
In this incident, 250 schoolchildren were used to hold the fall of an 'osariya' - a traditional Kandyan sari. A special investigation was held under the patronage of the Governor this morning (25).
Central Province's Education Director, Acting Education Director of Katugastota, Principal of Alawathugoda Sarath Ekanayake Primary School, and Provincial Assistant Education Secretary were in the meeting.
However, Central Province's Education Secretary did not attend the meeting. Although the Governor allowed the media to cover the meeting, the education officials opposed the move.
No body spoke to the media even after the event. However, the Governor said the investigations will be continued further.
The Ministry of Education and National Child Protection Authority have also investigating the incident.
