The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Governor and President’s Counsel Marshal Perera says that the powers of the council will be vested in him after its official term ends from midnight today (26).

He said he will be responsible for the administration of the council until an election is held and a new administration is formed.

The present administration of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council was elected to power in 8th of September, 2012.

Meanwhile, the last session of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council was chaired by Kanchana Jayarathna at the Council Complex in Ratnapura today (26).

Addressing the last session, Chief Minister Mahipala Herath said he was able to render a better service at his current capacity than that of being a parliamentarian.

In addition, the official term of the Eastern and the North Central Provincial Councils will end on 1st of October and 2nd of October respectively.

However, under the newly passed Provincial Council Elections Amendment Act, elections could be held only after the delimitation process is complete.
