The railway trade unions say that they will continue their strike action after the discussion with the Transport Minister was unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport said that leave of drivers and conductors of Sri Lanka Transport Board has been cancelled.
This directive has been issued as a result of the ongoing strike by the railway staff.
The ongoing strike was launched by Locomotive Engineers' Union and Railway Guards, demanding the authorities to revise the recruitment procedure of trainee locomotive drivers.
Meanwhile, Minister Nimal Siripala has said that the strikers had earlier informed him that they would commence their strike from midnight yesterday (11).
He added that launching of the strike last evening was an act of sabotage.
He went on to say, the General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways has been advised to call for a police investigation into the strike.
