President Maithripala Sirisena has decided to grant several more benefits to members of the security forces.

President’s Media Unit stated that the disability pension for those who retired at the age of 55 due to injuries incurred during service will be paid fully instead of the 85% of their salary at the time of the retirement.

Retired or resigned members who had been disabled due to injury after serving for less than 12 years will also be entitled to these benefits.

In addition, the dependents of retired members of the volunteer forces or those who were killed in action who failed to claim Widows or Orphans Funds will also be entitled to benefits under this scheme.

At the same time, the basic salary will be increased in 5 phases with effect from January 1, 2016.

The Rs. 15,000 allowance being paid to public sector executive officers will be paid to security forces officers above the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with effect from February 3, 2016.

This will be paid to officers from the security forces engaged in the legal profession as well.
