The Cabinet has granted approval and announced the minimum qualification required to enter a medical faculty.
 
A senior government Minister said that the cabinet approved 2 credit passes and one ordinary pass under the A/L science stream as being the minimum entry requirement to enter the medical faculty.
 
The decision was made according to the recommendations of the cabinet sub-committee appointed for the formulation of the minimum standards for medical education.
 
Accordingly, students studying at SAITM possessing this minimum qualification will be eligible to receive education at a government medical faculty or at a medical faculty created with government intervention.
