A plane has crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, officials say.

The plane, operated by US-Bangla, a Bangladeshi airline, veered off the runway while landing this afternoon (Mar. 12), causing a blaze that firefighters have been tackling.

About 67 people were thought to be on board.

Officials say 17 passengers were rescued.

The plane was operated the Bangladeshi airline, US-Bangla.

“We cannot give the exact number of casualty as we are still finding out all details. At the moment, our priority is to rush the victims to the hospitals,” sources from the spot said, adding the fire has now been controlled.

The plane that was coming from Dhaka caught fire immediately after it hit the ground off the runway, the source added. The cause of the accident is not yet known.
