Police have taken steps to assign a special police team to analyze CCTV footage to identify the persons responsible for the recent Kandy riots.

A police spokesperson confirmed that at this stage certain persons have been identified via CCTV footage.

The police are also investigating whether incidents of looting took place after places of business and houses were damaged by the rioters.

Meanwhile, it was also decided, during a special discussion yesterday (Mar. 12), to have compensation paid to those who were impacted by the damage caused to property during the riots.

The affected persons have been asked to lodge complaints with the nearest police station regarding the damages.

The government also requests that those who have not yet submitted their complaints to do so as soon as possible.
