Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that India may have had reservations about his government in the past, but it has changed now.

In an interview with the Indian Express, the former President said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was elected to power in 2014 and they did not have enough time to get to know each other better before he was voted out in 2015.

The Former President also revealed that when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Sri Lanka last year, he met him at the Indian High Commissioner’s residence in Colombo.

The year 2019 will be an election year in India and it will be important for Sri Lanka as well, he noted.

Expressing views on next Presidential Election of Sri Lanka, the former President said that he has a role to play in that too.

He said that his role will be the same as the role he played in the recent local government election where he will lead the campaign on behalf of the candidate chosen by the Joint Opposition and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
