The Committee on Cost of Living has granted approval to increase the price of a kilogram of milk powder by 80 rupees.
Companies importing and distributing milk powder had requested the Consumer Affairs Authority to increase the price of milk powder in view of the rising prices of milk powder across the world.
Accordingly, the request was submitted to the Committee on Cost of Living by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
The Director-General of Consumer Affairs Authority, D. Jeevananda stated that the decision in this regard was communicated to the CAA yesterday (Mar. 23).
Accordingly, the prices will be revised upwardly except for infant formula.
Speaking to our news team, the Director General of the Consumer Affairs Authority revealed that the gazette notification pertaining to the matter will be issued next week.
The Director-General further also said that a request made by companies to increase the prices of gas was refused by the Committee on Cost of Living.
Recently, the price of cement manufactured in Sri Lanka was increased by Rs. 30 per 50 kg bag.
