The Met Department states that Prevailing rainfall along with cloudy skies in the South-western part of the island is expected to continue.

Showers or thunderstorms will occur periodically in Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly after 2 pm.

Heavy rainfall, around 150 mili meters has been predicted in Sabaragamuwa, Western provinces and in Galle, Matara districts.

Duty Meteorologist Kasun Pasquel requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

By 9.30 last night, the highest rainfall of 222.5 mm was recorded in Ratnapura.

201.5 mm was recorded in Eheliyagoda while 153.8 mm was recorded in Dehiowita .

The Met Department noted that Aranayake received rainfall of 108 mm.

The Department of Irrigation noted that certain areas are in danger of flooding as water-level in Nilwala, Gin, Kalu, Kelani and Benthara rivers as well as  Aththanagalu and Maa oya are rising.

As a consequence residiemts in low-lying areas have been advised to be vigilant.

Reports say that 5 individuals have killed after being struck by lightning.

2 sluice gates of Laxapana reservoir and one sluice gate at both Deduru oya and Udawala reservoir were opened due to heavy rains experienced in the central hills.

The National Building Research Organization issued landslide warnings for Kalutara, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura and Kandy Districts.

The NBRO issued landslide warnings as a precaution, as it has been predicted the inclement weather will worsens in the coming days.
