The environmental protection organization, Surakimu Sri Lanka charges that the Minister of Wildlife, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has decided to have the two elephants, both inhabitants of the world heritage rainforest, Sinharaja, to be moved to the elephant detention center at Horowpathaana.

Addressing a media conference in Colombo this morning (Jun 13), National Organizer of Surakimu Sri Lanka, Pahiyangala Ananda Thera disclosed this.

When we contacted Wildlife Director General C. Suriyabandara to comment on the matter, he said that the two elephants were creating havoc for residents of the boundary villages of Sinharaja, thus they decided to move the elephants out of the forest.

He also said that the two elephants' lives are at risk as they used to encroach the adjourning villages.
