Joint Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne pointed out that the Registrar of Pesticides does not have the authority to lift the ban on the glyphosate, disregarding cabinet decisions.

Issuing a communiqué, Minister Senaratne pointed out that cabinet had approved to lift the ban on the glyphosate for only the tea and rubber industries.

Previously, the Registrar of Pesticides issued an extraordinary gazette, lifting the ban on glyphosate for all the crops.

When questioned by our news team, the Registrar of Pesticides Professor J. A. Sumith stated that a gazette will be issued, reinstating the ban on glyphosate for other crops except for tea and rubber.
