Railway Trade Unions on strike, are threatening to stop the services provided by eight trains if their demands are not met.

The Railway Department took measures to have eight office trains added to the service last evening from Colombo Fort and those trains return to Colombo this morning.

However, Secretary of the Locomotive Engineers’ Union Indika Dodamgoda said that those eight trains would also be stopped tomorrow if their demands are not met.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Ashok Abeysinghe stated that a fleet of additional buses will be deployed in an effort to cope with the disruption to the public transport services.
