The Railways Department says it has incurred a loss of about 100 million rupees due to the strike action launched by railway trade unions.
 
A senior spokesperson at the department disclosed this. The railway strike was launched on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Meanwhile, railway trade unions stated that several train services will be operated from this afternoon as per the request made by authorities.
 
Accordingly, a train was operated from Veyangoda to Moratuwa this afternoon while another Colombo bound train will depart Kandy at 6.35 am tomorrow.
 
The Ruhunu Kumari train from Matara will operate on schedule while another Panadura bound train is scheduled to leave Chilaw at 5 am tomorrow.
 
Meanwhile, the assistant engine drivers convening a press briefing in Colombo stated that although they are prepared to operate trains the subject Minister is not prepared to intervene in that regard.
