The All Ceylon Private Bus Workers' Association launched a strike from midnight yesterday against the recently introduced traffic fine structure.

The Union's Western Province Organizer U. K. Kumararatne Renuka told us that the private bus operators are hugely inconvenienced as a result of this traffic fine structure.

He said several other unions in the transport sector are also supporting their move.

However, the President of Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association, Gamunu Wijeratne said they do not support this strike.

He added it was unfair to strike at this moment as the A/L examination is underway.

Meanwhile, the railway trade unions threaten that they would recommence their strike yet again if their demands are not addressed.

They say that the government has been given one week to address the salary anomalies highlighted by them.
