Police have arrested an individual for murdering his wife who is a mother of one and dumping her corpse in the Moragahakanda reservoir.
 
The husband had murdered the wife on the 21st of June and had carried the corpse in a vehicle for 62 km before dumping it into the Moragahakanda reservoir from the observation area in Naula.
 
The husband has confessed to about the crime to a chief incumbent of a temple in the area.
 
Police stated that the individual then made a confession to Polonnaruwa police as per the instructions of the chief incumbent of the temple.
 
It is reported that the 36-year-old murdered woman, who was a resident of Galthambarawa, Polonnaruwa, was a teacher at one of the leading schools in Polonnaruwa.
 
Investigations have revealed that the husband had murdered the wife over a family dispute.
 
The family has a 1 year and 8-month-old girl who is currently in the custody of the husband’s mother.
 
A relative of the murdered woman speaking to our news team stated that they should at least be given the child’s custody to them.
