National project launched to renovate irrigation systems islandwide

President Maithripala Sirisena has said that the government would launch a special programme to renovate the irrigation system islandwide.

As the first phase of the project, 17 lakes in the Mahawilachchiya and Nochchiyagama divisions will be renovated.

He said the project which will renovate 2400 lakes islandwide will be carried out by engineers attached to the Sri Lanka Army.
