President Maithripala Sirisena left for US last night to participate in the 73rd UN General Assembly.

The 15 member delegation left the island at around 9.10 last night.

The theme for this year’s session is "Making the United Nations relevant to all people: global leadership and shared responsibilities for peaceful, equitable and sustainable societies".

The President will deliver his address on Tuesday.

President Maithripala Sirisena will announce a set of new proposals for consideration at the March 2019 session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
