President+calls+for+a+report+on+imports+that+can+be+limited

President Maithripala Sirisena directed the Finance Ministry today to identify the imports that can be limited and, submit a report to him naming such goods within two weeks.

The National Economic Council that met at the presidential secretariat today discussed in length the measures that could be taken to face the economic challenges due to the depreciation of the local rupee.

The president is of the opinion that the gap of the balance of payment could be bridged by minimizing the redundant goods and properly charging customs duty. 

In addition, the president called for a report on the current position of the scanning of container goods.

Meanwhile, President Sirisena who addressed the anniversary of the World Food Day at the BMICH today said that the highest quantity of food is wasted daily in parliament.
