The police sergeant Sanath Gunewardana who was temporarily suspended due to unruly behaviour, was reinstated to the service by IGP Poojith Jayasundara.

The police media spokesperson said that he has been reinstated to the Thembuwana police station itself.

On October 3rd, the police officer disgruntled by the release of the sand lorry seized by him for transporting sand allegedly without the necessary permits by the OIC of the Thebuwana Police, took up a T56 firearm and threatened to commit suicide.

However, President Maithreepala Sirisena granted financial support of 1 million rupees to police sergeant Sanath Gunawardena taking into account the financial difficulties and to support the education of his children.

The Presidents media unit noted that the donation was made when he met with the president at the president’s office last afternoon.
